Raising Awareness to Support Children who have Experienced Difficult Times

UPDATE    December 2004 to April 2005

Collection Boxes

In January we purchased 20 of our own Collection Boxes as a few places had said that they would be happy to hold them for us. They cost £57.58.

Here is a summary of the places who have them now along with details of the money that has already been collected (some of the larger amounts also had our ‘CHD Day Rose’:

The following places in Crawley and Copthorne also have our collection boxes:

Comet,

Dr  Samuel Johnson,

Flight Tavern,

Pelham Buckle,

White Knight Pub,

Prince Albert Pub,

Copthorne Social Club,

Maid of Sussex.

Forget-Me-Not Florists from Portslade has a collection box and helped us out greatly with our ‘CHD Day Roses’.

After great discussion as to whether we should use real or fake roses for valentines day we came up with the idea of the ‘CHD Day Rose-Valentine and ‘CHD Day Rose-Mum’. Accompanied with a poem, the rose represented “Understanding Differences” meaning of Valentines Day-which of course was Congenital Heart Disease Awareness Day.

We then extended this into Mothers Day and re-wrote the poem.  Lisa at Forget-Me-Knot Florists got the roses in; on more that one occasion! and let us have them for a very good price. Without her support we would not have been able to collect so much money from the collection boxes over this period. We thank her again and hope she may be able to help us next year.

GRANTS

It’s time to start applying for more grants. Please let us know of any new sponsors out there offering community grants. Any comments on what you think we should be asking to spend the money on?

MEETINGS

We still meet at Brewsters every 4th Monday of the month. This is at Tilgate Park, Tilgate, Crawley. We meet at 6pm. This may change, as there are a few rumours that Brewsters may be loosing the play area. Please phone to check before going to Brewsters.

Squirrels Playgroup, Our Lady’s Playgroup in Langley Green and St. Margaret’s School-We asked if they would do an event to support us over CHD period i.e. make heart shaped cookies but they were not able to help this time.

Desmond Anderson School let us have a Valentines Card Competition. The main aim of the idea was to raise the profile of the group and attempt to get some communication going. The leaflets given also had all the details of the events on the back. There were 3 entries; my own son and the other 2 children were those that I child mind. To follow things through, we gave them a few bars of chocolate each. Hopefully we may be able to use their pictures sometime. The competition was open to all the other members but, to date there have been no entries.

We welcome any chance to raise our profile so if you have any ideas to help then please contact us. Perhaps your school, playgroup or social group would become involved in our next event, hold a small grid game to raise money with a percentage going to a charity of your choice or perhaps you have some other ideas?????
